Images of the Queen have been projected onto the skies of Switzerland, in tribute to the late monarch.

The moving project – titled Travelling To The Stars – The Queen Of England On The Way To Heaven – was created by Swiss light artist Gerry Hofstetter.

Set against the clouds in the night sky, photos included the Queen in a blue coat and hat holding hands with Prince Philip in his ceremonial military uniform, and a close up of the Queen wearing pink and laughing.

Hofstetter worked on the project in partnership with the British embassy in Berne, and previously worked with them to project royal images onto famous Swiss mountains during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany, was illuminated with the Union Jack flag following her death.

In his message to King Charles, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said the Queen had helped a century, in the UK and the entire world, going on to say: “over here in Germany she was admired and worshipped”.

He called her death “a watershed, the end of an era”.

Sydney pays tribute

The sails of the Sydney Opera House were lit up with the Queen’s black and white image on the Friday and Saturday following her death.

The Queen visited Australia 16 times during her 70 years on the throne and helped open the Opera House in 1973.

Floral tributes also sprang up outside government buildings in Sydney and Canberra.

Winnipeggers say goodbye

And a five-by-seven-meter-high painting of the Queen greeted shoppers at CF Polo Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada following the Queen’s death.

The image, painted by billboard artist Gilbert Burch in 1979, is on loan the shopping centre from its current owner Ron D’Errico.

Mr D’Errico was keen to publicly display the painting, to give Winnipeggers a chance to mourn the death of the Queen.
