Mountain rescue teams and RAF search for missing Glencoe hillwalker

Mountain rescue teams and the RAF are helping in the search for a missing hillwalker who disappeared in the Scottish Highlands last week.

Charlie Kelly, 56, set off from his home in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, last Wednesday for a trek in the Glencoe area.

Police Scotland said his family last heard from him at around 8pm on Thursday and there are now “real concerns for his safety and welfare”.

The force is appealing for anyone who may have spotted Mr Kelly to get in touch, especially those who have been walking in the Glen Etive area since Wednesday.

Members of Glencoe, Lochaber, Oban and Arrochar mountain rescue teams have joined the search, as have the RAF and Search and Rescue Dog Association.

Air support has also been provided by a HM Coastguard helicopter.

In an update on Facebook on Sunday, Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team posted: “As the third day of searching comes to a close we sadly have still been unable to locate Charles Kelly.

“We would like to ask again for anyone who was on the hills in Glencoe, particularly the Glen Etive and White Corries [Glencoe Ski Centre] areas Wednesday onwards, to think back and check your photos of the day for any sign of Charles.”

Mr Kelly was last seen wearing a dark green fleece top, dark grey combat-style trousers, and a black waterproof jacket. It is believed he may also be carrying a navy-blue rucksack.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “If anyone has seen Charlie or has any information about his whereabouts, please do get in touch.”
