A man has been charged after a probe was launched into reports of “threatening and abusive” messages allegedly sent to a referee following an Old Firm derby.
The Scottish Football Association (SFA) referred a “significant volume of threatening and abusive” emails and phone messages to Police Scotland following the Celtic and Rangers match in the Scottish Premiership last month.
At the time, the SFA said referee Kevin Clancy’s contact details were published online after the clash in which The Hoops beat their Glasgow rivals 3-2 at Celtic Park on Saturday 8 April.
Police launched an investigation and have charged a man in connection with the probe.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with threatening communications which were reported by the SFA on Tuesday 11 April 2023.
“He has been released on an undertaking to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.”
Since the match, Celtic have been confirmed as league champions after building an unassailable lead over Rangers in the premiership table.
