Labour is no longer backing its candidate in the Rochdale by-election.

Party spokespeople had been supporting local councillor Azhar Ali until Monday afternoon – saying his comments about the Hamas attacks on Israel were informed by an online conspiracy theory and “didn’t represent his view”.

But by Monday evening, the full recording of his comments came to light – and Labour backtracked, saying he’d be on the ballot paper but no longer had its support.

Sky’s chief political correspondent Jon Craig says it’s Sir Keir Starmer’s “biggest crisis yet” – he joins Leah Boleto to explain why.
