Two dolphins that became stranded on a Scottish beach have been safely returned to the sea.

A rescue operation was launched after the alarm was raised in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, on Monday morning.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) was part of the operation to keep the mammals wet until they were able to be carried back into the water.

Stacey Esson, Aberdeenshire coordinator for BDMLR, thanked all those who sprang into action – including members of the public, Fraserburgh Coastguard, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and medics called to the scene.

She said: “The animals were successfully refloated at 1pm and swam off.

“We are keeping an eye in the area in case they restrand.”

Aberdeenshire Drone Services was asked to attend the incident.

Sharing pictures and footage of the rescue online, a spokesperson said: “Amazing work today by everyone involved. Great effort.”
