A “wicked” predator who battered a vulnerable young woman to death in a converted shipping container and buried her body in the woods has been jailed for life.

Neculai Paizan, 64, was found guilty by an Old Bailey jury of murdering 20-year-old Agnes Dora Akom.

On Monday, Judge Richard Marks QC jailed him for life with a minimum term of 22 years.

He said: “It is clear on your lengthy evidence that you remain in a complete state of denial as to what you did in that frenzy of violence that took away that young girl’s life at the age of 20.

“These were shocking acts of wickedness on your part.”

The concrete mixer driver hit Agnes Akom over the head at least 20 times in a converted shipping container in Brent, northwest London last year on 9 May.

CCTV recorded Paizan putting her body in his car boot after calmly washing his hands and face. He then buried her dismembered body in the woods in Neasden Recreation Ground.

The power tool Paizan used to kill her was found in a skip with Ms Akom’s hair stuck to it alongside her clothes.

Ms Akom’s decomposed body was found by police on 14 June 2021 – a month after she was murdered.

Paizan admitted moving the body but denied murder after falsely claiming Ms Akom tried to poison him with iced coffee.

The pair met, according to the killer, when she was begging for money in a supermarket car park.

But evidence suggested he preyed on her vulnerability and promised her money.

They met 54 times in the year before the murder, the Old Bailey heard, with the jury shown pictures Paizan had taken of Ms Akom semi-naked.

In his sentencing remarks, the judge praised the Metropolitan Police for the “exceptional” work in bringing Paizan to justice.
