Fans going to the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy have been urged to get a COVID vaccination if they haven’t had a first or second dose yet.

Anyone who drops in to the Wembley vaccination centre, which is minutes away from the famous arch, will be able to get a jab to help build up their protection against the virus.

While some who are attending the game will have had to show proof of vaccination, many will also have been able to enter after showing proof of a negative lateral flow test or natural immunity after having had the virus.

These are among the people the NHS’s top doctor targeted when he urged fans to be a “team player” by getting their vaccination before the match.

Professor Stephen Powis, national medical director of NHS England, said: “The NHS vaccination programme, the biggest in health service history, is running throughout the weekend with hundreds of sites offering a walk-in service, so whether you will be cheering on England or have other plans it couldn’t be easier to grab a jab.

“The vaccine is England’s best defence, protecting yourself, your family and your loved ones against COVID, so be a team player and get both your vaccinations in what is a game of two jabs.”

The Wembley vaccination site is at the Olympic Office Centre, 8 Fulton Rd, Wembley, London, HA9 0NU and will be open from 9am to 7pm for any adults to drop in on Sunday.

But Wembley is not the only football stadium running walk-in vaccination centres, with Millwall’s The New Den and Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park also taking part in the national effort to help vaccinate the country.

NHS vaccine services are also available at AFC Wimbledon’s new ground in Plough Lane, SW19, Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, Elland Road Stadium in Leeds and Oxford United’s Kassam Stadium.

Other sporting venues joining the NHS vaccination programme include St Helens’, Saracens’ StoneX and Harlequins’ Twickenham rugby grounds.

An advert encouraging everyone eligible person who has not had their jab so far to get one will be shown during TV coverage of the Euro 2020 final on Sunday night.

So far, the number of people in England who have been vaccinated at least once – 38 million – would be enough to fill Wembley 425 times.
