The UK has reported 10,633 new coronavirus cases and five more deaths, according to official daily figures.

Today’s figures compare with 9,284 infections and six deaths yesterday, and 10,094 cases and eight deaths last Monday.

Another 163,750 people also had a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine and 109,408 had a second dose.

It means 43,127,763 have had a first jab, while 31,449,915 are fully vaccinated.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 153,000 deaths registered in the UK where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The figures come as the prime minister said it is “looking good” for 19 July to be the “terminus point” for England’s coronavirus restrictions.

However, Boris Johnson did not rule out the prospect of further lockdowns in the winter.

“You can never exclude that there will be some new disease, some new horror that we simply haven’t budgeted for or accounted for,” Mr Johnson said when asked if he could discount the possibility of reimposing COVID-19 measures later this year.

And the health secretary has told Sky News the government is looking at scrapping the 10-day self-isolation requirement for people who have had two jabs.

Matt Hancock said the move was “something that we’re working on and I very much hope we’ll be able to make progress soon”.
