The UK has recorded 195 coronavirus-related deaths and 42,408 new cases in the latest 24-hours, government data shows.

The number of COVID fatalities is a fall from the 214 reported on Tuesday and the 214 reported this time last week.

However, the number of coronavirus cases is higher than the 32,329 reported on Tuesday and the 37,269 reported on Wednesday last week.

It is the fourth day in a row that cases have increased

Some 119,188 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, meaning 50,455,318 have now had their first jab.

It is a rise of 119,188 on the previous day, though the figures include some vaccinations recorded on Tuesday as well as Wednesday following a technical issue.

Some 47,766 have had their second dose, bringing that total up to 45,942,003.

And 532,238 have had a third dose or booster jab, meaning 11,452,654 people have now had three coronavirus vaccine doses.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed there have been 167,000 deaths registered in the UK where COVID-19 had been mentioned on the death certificate.

It comes as thousands of care home staff face losing their jobs as the deadline for mandatory COVID-19 vaccination passes today.

From Thursday all care home workers in England must have been double jabbed – unless they are medically exempt.

More than 56,000 staff in care homes for younger and older residents have not been recorded as having both doses as of 7 November, four days before today’s deadline, according to figures published by NHS England.

However, several thousand are understood to have self-certified as medically exempt or to have applied for formal proof.
