Prince Harry and Meghan’s popularity has fallen to its lowest level after their interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to a poll.

Their claim that questions had been raised about the colour of their son Archie’s skin made headlines around the world.

Meghan also said she’d had suicidal feelings due to the pressure of life in the spotlight

But a survey suggests their tell-all interview has not gone down well with some people in the UK.

In contrast, support for the Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appears to be unchanged and very positive, according to the poll.

Forty-eight per cent of people said they had a negative view of Prince Harry, compared with 45% with a positive view – giving him a -3 net score.

It is the first time attitudes have been more negative than positive towards him, said pollsters YouGov, and is a 15-point drop from 2 March.

Meghan’s popularity also appears to have declined heavily after the interview.

Only 31% had a positive opinion of the Duchess of Sussex, while 58% of the survey’s 1,664 British respondents viewed her negatively.

This net rating of -27 is down from -14 just over a week ago.

However, the survey also reveals a divide among age groups.

Most 18-24-year-old (55%) like Meghan and only a third (32%) dislike her. The same is true for Prince Harry, with 59% having a positive view and 28% a negative one.

Over-65s, however, mostly dislike the couple. For Harry, the feedback was 27% positive and 69% negative, and for Meghan 13% and 83%, respectively.

The couple’s popularity in other parts of the world, namely the US, may have increased however, but this survey just focused on the UK.

In America, the couple have received support in many parts of the media and had backing from celebrities such as Serena Williams and Hillary Clinton.

Opinions of the Queen remain very positive, according to the YouGov poll – but Prince Charles and Prince William have slipped slightly after Harry admitted his relationship with the pair remained strained.

Eighty per cent continue to have a positive opinion of the monarch, showing no change from the week before the interview. Only 14% view her negatively.

Three-quarters of people view William positively (76%) – down from 80%; while his negative score is 16% – up from 15%.

It comes as the duke this week hit back at his brother’s claims, saying the royals were “very much not a racist family”.

Prince Charles’ positive score slid from 57% to 49%, and his negative one increased from 36% to 42%, according to the survey.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s scores remained very positive and were virtually unchanged at 73% positive and 16% negative.

That’s despite Meghan’s claim that it was Kate who had in fact made her cry before her wedding, rather than earlier press reports that it was the other way around.

The poll was conducted on 10 and 11 March, a few days after Harry and Meghan’s interview was broadcast.

YouGov said views on the monarchy had not shifted much in the wake of the controversial claims – two thirds still want a Royal Family (63%), compared with 67% in October last year.

A quarter (25%) want an elected head of state, up from a fifth (21%).
