Two police officers have been shot dead during a routine traffic stop in southwestern Germany.
The killing happened at around 4.20am on District Road 22 in the district of Kusel, Rhineland-Palatinate.
Police said they are still looking for the suspects, who fled the scene.
It is not known which way they travelled and there is no description of the suspects or the vehicle they escaped in, according to police.
District Road 22 is completely closed in the Mayweilerhof and Ulmet areas.
Police have asked the public not to pick up hitchhikers in the Kusel district.
At least one of the perpetrators is armed.
