Tommy Robinson has been charged after being arrested at Sunday’s march against antisemitism in London.

Robinson, the former leader of the far-right English Defence League, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was arrested on Sunday, for “failing to comply with a direction to disperse”.

In an update on Monday, the Metropolitan Police said: “Stephen Lennon, of Bedfordshire, has been charged with failing to comply with a section 35 direction excluding a person from an area.

“He has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 22 January.”

Yesterday, the force said officers had arrested the 40-year-old on the Strand in central London.

The Met Police said Yaxley-Lennon had told officers he was there in his capacity as a “journalist”.

The force said Yaxley-Lennon was warned on more than one occasion that his presence was likely to cause “harassment, alarm and distress to others”.
