Solicitor accused of injecting food with blood at London supermarkets appears in court

A solicitor accused of injecting syringes filled with blood into food at three supermarkets in west London has appeared in court.

Leoaai Elghareeb, 37, of Crabtree Lane, Fulham, is charged with contaminating or interfering with goods with intent at three stores – a Tesco Express, Little Waitrose and Sainsbury’s Local – in Fulham Palace Road on Wednesday evening.

He allegedly entered the Waitrose store at 7.30pm, where he started “throwing around” syringes filled with blood and injecting them into food, Westminster Magistrates’ Court was told.

The precise contents of the blood are not known, the court heard.

He is also accused of doing the same in a nearby Sainsbury’s store, as well as throwing eggs, and going on to inject more items in a Tesco Express before being arrested.

Elghareeb, who was described to the court as a solicitor and a “man of previous good character”, indicated no plea during the hearing.

Officers were seen in forensic suits in Fulham Palace Road on Thursday, seizing items including processed meats.

The council issued an “emergency alert” notice on its social media accounts, advising members of the public “as a precaution to dispose of any food items bought from these supermarkets this evening”.

Elghareeb was remanded in custody and will appear at Isleworth Crown Court on 24 September.
