Sky News has announced a live TV debate will take place on the day the ballots open as the final three candidates in the race to be leader of the Scottish National Party and First Minister of Scotland make their cases for votes.
The one-hour show will be aired on Monday 13 March at 8pm live from Edinburgh, as the final candidates, Ash Regan MSP, Humza Yousaf MSP and Kate Forbes MSP, face questions from Sky News’ political editor Beth Rigby.
Beth will put questions to the candidates, and with significant debate on a number of matters including gender recognition reforms and the country’s strategy for independence, the debate is sure to play a key part in shaping public opinion.
On the same day as the debate, SNP members will take part in a two-week ballot to choose their party’s new leader.
Sky News political editor, Beth Rigby said: “This is a critical moment for Scotland with a cost of living crisis, major challenges facing the NHS and questions about the future shape of the Union.
“The debate gives people in Scotland, and right across the UK, the chance to see candidates put to the test.
“Sky News is committed to covering the big issues around the UK that have a direct impact on people’s lives, so it’s important we give the voting public, and SNP members, the opportunity to watch the hustings and to see for themselves what the candidates have to say.”
