Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the world’s best footballers.
The Portuguese forward, 36, is known for his determination to break records and win trophies.
And, with 84 goals previously in the English top flight of football, there is already speculation he may be seeking to surpass 100 as he looks set to return to Manchester United.
So how has Ronaldo’s career panned out so far?
Ronaldo only played one season for the Sporting first team in Lisbon, Portugal, but he still made a mark.
Playing off the wing, he managed to net five goals – as well as six assists.
At Manchester United, the then-winger’s scoring record was slow to take off, but after six years he left having netted 118 times in all competitions, having played 292 games.
Real Madrid is where Ronaldo perfected his predatory instincts – scoring 450 goals in 438 games.
And in his three years at Juventus, he hit the back of the net another 101 times in 134 games.
In total, Ronaldo has notched up 674 goals in 895 club appearances – as well as 229 assists.
Ronaldo himself probably has more trophies than many clubs.
His first taste of silverware came while at Sporting – when as a 17-year-old he was part of the squad which lifted the Portuguese Super Cup.
It took a year for Man Utd to win a trophy after his arrival, but the teenager was soon adding more and more medals to his collection.
He won three Premier Leagues, the FA Cup, two League Cups, two Community Shields, and also the Club World Cup.
He also lifted his first Champions League with the Red Devils in 2008.
At Real Madrid, Ronaldo added another four Champions Leagues to his trophy cabinet – including three in a row between 2016 and 2018.
He also won La Liga twice, two Spanish Cups, the two Spanish Super Cup, the three Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup three times.
There was more silverware for the taking at Juventus – and Ronaldo clinched both the Italian Super Cup and the Serie A title in his first season.
He subsequently won both competitions again, as well as taking home an Italian Cup.
All told, Ronaldo won 33 trophies at the domestic level.
Never one to take no for an answer, Ronaldo took any failure as motivation for the next opportunity.
For the best part of a decade he and Lionel Messi battled it out for the Ballon D’or – awarded to the best player in the world.
Ronaldo won in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017, while Messi won in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2019 – Luka Modric won in 2018.
Other personal accolades include twice being awarded the Best FIFA Men’s Player and winning the UEFA Best Player in Europe three times.
He has also won the domestic player of the year award twice at Man Utd, twice at Real Madrid and once at Juventus.
At Juventus, Ronaldo also won the Serie A player of the year in 2019.
As a prolific forward, Ronaldo has been the top scorer in 16 different competitions at club level, and won the Puskas award for best goal scored in 2009 for a long range effort against Porto for United.
Ronaldo has always been dedicated to his national team.
And although he has not won as much as he has at club level, his records for Portugal are still remarkable.
Now the captain, he has scored 109 goals in 179 caps.
And he has been the top scorer at three international tournaments.
Despite being injured when Portugal won Euro 2016, Ronaldo was animated on the touchline, spurring his nation on to take home the trophy.
He was on the pitch to lift the Nations League in 2019, however.
And in a true display of how dominant he is, Ronaldo won the Portuguese footballer of the year award 10 times out of a possible 12 between 2007 and 2018.
