It was the match every England fan dreaded: Germany, in the knockout stages.

But Gareth Southgate’s men are safely through to the quarter finals of Euro 2020, thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling.

Things are now looking – dare we say it – a tiny bit more promising, because Italy, Spain and Belgium are in the other half of the draw.

England’s last-eight match, against Ukraine or Sweden, is in Rome at 8pm on Saturday.

The Swedes take on the Ukrainians at Hampden Park in Glasgow this evening – kick off at 8pm.

Looking further ahead, England’s semi-final opponents, were they to reach the last four, would be Czech Republic or Denmark on Wednesday 7 July at Wembley.

And the final?

If England progress that far, their opponents would be one of the following four teams: Belgium, Italy, Switzerland and Spain – the teams in the quarter finals on the other side of the draw.

For any fans wanting to travel to Rome to watch the quarter-final match live it appears pointless even to try.

UK government advice says anyone who has been in the UK for the last 14 days must self-isolate for five days on arrival in Italy.

At the end of their period of quarantine, they must test negative for COVID-19 before being allowed to mix.

They must also test negative no more than 48 hours before boarding the plane out.
