Police in Birmingham are investigating the death of a two-day-old baby.

West Midlands Police officers were called to a flat on Vinnall Grove in Bartley Green, Birmingham, at 5.30am on 13 April.

A baby girl was confirmed dead shortly after they arrived at the scene.

The force said a 26-year-old woman was arrested at the time on suspicion of neglect and was later bailed pending further investigations.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson confirmed to Sky News that a “newborn baby has tragically died at a flat in Birmingham”.

They added: “An investigation is ongoing by specially trained officers from our public protection unit. Our thoughts are with those affected.”
