A seven-year-old girl who spent three months in hospital after being stabbed in the neck by her own father has been reunited with the police officers who saved her life.

Noura was unconscious when PC Ryan Legge and PC Ahmet Mavitunali stemmed her bleeding, and so had never actually spoken to them.

But today, they picked her up from school in a police car and took her to an event to mark Emergency Services Day, where she also met Prince William.

PC Legge and PC Mavitunali were called to a block of flats in northwest London last May.

Scotland Yard was alerted by family members in Austria, who had received a photograph showing both Noura and her father with significant injuries.

Unfortunately, relatives did not have the exact address, and so the officers had to force entry to several apartments before finding the right one.

After finally locating the pair, they saw that Noura had “significant stab wounds to her neck and chest”, the Met Police said.

While “stemming the injuries”, they alerted paramedics who were treating Noura’s father.

But for the officers’ “quick thinking and administering of first aid in that moment”, it is “very possible that Noura would not have survived”, Scotland Yard said.

Initially, doctors treating Noura, who was six at the time, feared she could suffer “serious neurological brain damage”.

She has, however, made a full recovery.

Her mother, Luna Di Raimondo said: “The emergency services saved her. They were extremely quick and made sure she got to the hospital. If they did not do what they did, probably she would not be here.

“Meeting William today has been a happy ending. It has been a remarkable experience.”

Noura’s father was taken to hospital in a serious condition, suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds. He was later arrested and charged with attempted murder, and subsequently jailed for 22 years.

Commander Sara Leach said she was “immensely proud of Ahmet and Ryan, whose actions at the scene were crucial in helping Noura in this sad and shocking case”.

She added: “This was a violent assault on a young girl by a person who should have been looking after her. It is quite right that both officers be recognised for their quick thinking under what must have been extremely distressing circumstances.

“They, along with Noura, should be commended for their bravery and resilience.”
