A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with rape, the force said.
PC Adam Zaman, 28, who is based on the East Area Command Unit, was charged by the City of London Police today.
He has been remanded in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.
The charge relates to an incident alleged to have occurred in the City of London on Sunday when Zaman was off-duty. He was arrested the following day.
The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and PC Zaman has been suspended. The matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
