Mason Greenwood has appeared in court after being charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault.
Members of the Manchester United player’s family were in the public gallery as he appeared in a grey sweatshirt and grey jogging bottoms.
The three charges relate to the same woman.
Greenwood, 21, was detained in January after the woman made allegations online.
He had been on bail until Saturday, when he allegedly breached his bail conditions and prosecutors decided to charge him.
Greenwood confirmed his name, date of birth and address at Monday’s hearing at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.
Details of the charges were read out before proceedings were adjourned until later today when bail arrangements will be decided.

The attempted rape is said to have happened in October 2021, the assault in December 2021, and the controlling and coercive behaviour between November 2018 and October this year.
Manchester United suspended Greenwood when the allegations surfaced and he has not played or trained with the club since.
He’s scored 35 times for the club and made 129 appearances.
Greenwood was also removed from the popular Fifa 22 video game and Nike terminated his sponsorship deal.
