A man has been arrested in connection with a murder investigation after an elderly woman was stabbed to death.
Emergency services were called to an address in Newham, east London shortly before 10am on Saturday to find the victim, in her 80s, critically injured.
Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics, she was declared dead at the scene in Landseer Avenue.
Police searched the surrounding area and a man aged in his 30s, thought to be known to the woman, was detained nearby a short time later.
Scotland Yard said the woman’s family had been informed and inquiries were ongoing.
A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.
The investigation is being led by detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s specialist homicide unit.
