A 60-year-old man in Indiana is accused of dismembering his girlfriend with a chainsaw and putting her remains in bin bags after she died while they were smoking methamphetamine.
Edward Bagwell called a friend and told her he had cut off his 61-year-old partner’s legs after discovering she was dead, according to an affidavit reported on by the Lafayette Journal & Courier.
Bagwell is said to have told detectives that he and girlfriend Rita Spigner smoked meth inside his house on 18 June.
He claimed he was still high when police interviewed him in the early hours of 4 July, according to the affidavit.
Bagwell allegedly used an electric chainsaw to cut off her legs and put them in a bin bag, stuffing her torso into another bin bag.
Police found the two bags inside Bagwell’s home.
An autopsy indicated that Spigner died from heart troubles, according to the affidavit.
Bagwell has been charged with abuse of a corpse and failure to report human remains.
