Legal papers, notifying Prince Andrew of a civil sexual assault case, have been delivered to his LA lawyer.

The summons and complaint papers were sent by email and FedEx to the Duke of York’s new US lawyer.

A FedEx notification shows the documents were delivered to Andrew B Brettler, at Lavely & Singer, in Los Angeles on Monday.

Papers also arrived on Monday at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, after being sent from a New York court on Friday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for the ninth-in-line to the throne said Prince Andrew will not be commenting on the update.

He is reportedly staying at the Queen’s Scottish holiday estate, Balmoral.

It comes days after lawyers for his accuser, Virginia Giuffre, released images of papers being posted to the duke’s home at Royal Lodge in Windsor.

The 61-year-old has been accused by a judge in America of “actively evading” formal efforts to serve him papers.

However, an American judge said the plan to deliver the lawsuit to the prince’s Los Angeles-based lawyer was “reasonably calculated to bring the papers served to the defendant’s attention”, regardless of whether the prince “authorised” the lawyer to accept it.

The High Court in London has said it would arrange for Andrew to be served if the parties failed to work out their own arrangement.

Ms Giuffre, 38, has accused the prince of battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress over alleged misconduct from two decades ago.

She was underage at the time of the alleged abuse, which she said occurred around the time the financier Jeffrey Epstein was sexually abusing her.

Her legal team sought intervention from district judge Lewis Kaplan, with lawyers accusing the duke of dodging the papers, likening it to a “game of hide and seek behind palace walls”.

Prince Andrew denies all wrongdoing.

On Saturday, Prince Andrews’s eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, has become a mother for the first time after giving birth to a baby girl.
