A High Court judge has been fined and given six penalty points for using his mobile phone behind the wheel.

Mr Justice Morris was given “formal advice”, the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office (JCIO) said in a statement.

No details of the incident which led to the sanction or the amount of the fine the judge was ordered to pay were included in the statement.

The judge, who was appointed in 2016 and hears cases in the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court, “accepted responsibility for his actions and apologised unreservedly”, the JCIO said.

A spokesperson for the JCIO said: “The Lord Chancellor and the Lord Chief Justice have issued Mr Justice Morris with formal advice after he received six penalty points and a fine for using his mobile phone whilst driving.

“In reaching their decision, they took into account that the judge reported the matter promptly, accepted responsibility for his actions, and apologised unreservedly.”
