Some coronavirus restrictions are being eased in Wales and Scotland today.

Hairdressers and barbers in Wales will be allowed to reopen for the first time in 2021.

First Minister Mark Drakeford said these businesses have “gone through everything that is needed in order to operate safely”.

Salons will only be able to serve customers who have an appointment – and services will be restricted to haircuts only.

The country’s primary school pupils are also returning to the classroom for the first time this year, with face-to-face teaching resuming for Year 11 and Year 13 students.

Teachers can also invite pupils in Year 10 and Year 12 to come into school for support, and all other years will be allowed to “check in” on a limited number of days ahead of a full return on 12 April.

On Saturday, Wales lifted its “stay-at-home” order, with the country moving to a “stay local” message instead. Travel restrictions are expected to be eased further in time for Easter.

More pupils are also returning to school in Scotland, with children in primaries four to seven joining their younger classmates.

All high school students are also going to be allowed to return to the classroom on a part-time basis as part of a blended learning model, meaning they will continue to do some learning at home until after the Easter holidays.

The next big step for easing lockdown in England is set to take place on 29 March, when the rule of six will return.

New measures will be introduced so two households can meet outdoors, including in private gardens, and outdoor organised sport will return.

People will still have to work from home where possible and no overseas travel, apart from necessary work, will be allowed.
