A six-year-old girl has died after she and her father were hit by a car as they walked together in Stoke-on-Trent.
Police have said that “despite the best efforts of passers-by” the girl, who has not been named, was confirmed dead at the scene.
Her father survived and is being treated for his injuries. The driver of the car is being treated for a head injury, police said.
Officers are appealing for witnesses after the incident, which happened on Endon Road in the city.
Inspector Lee Robinson, of Staffordshire Police, said: “We do not yet understand fully what has happened and so I’d urge people to avoid the area while we investigate and please not to speculate as to the circumstances.
“However, I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident, or may have CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch and assist our enquiries.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or through social media, citing incident 716 of 19 June.
