France has denied Wales the Six Nations Grand Slam in overtime in Paris’ empty stadium.

France beat Wales 32-30 after Les Bleus’ Brice Dulin squeezed in a try in the 81st minute while the Welsh side were two men down.

But the win does not mean France has won the whole tournament as they still have to play Scotland on Friday in a re-scheduled match following a COVID outbreak last month in the French team.

France still has to get a bonus point – score four tries in a match or lose by seven points or fewer – against Scotland to be in with a chance of winning the Six Nations.

It would then come down to points difference between France and Wales, but without a French bonus point, the win will be Wales’.

Wales had been hoping to get a Grand Slam after beating all four other nations in the tournament.

Reacting to the last-minute loss, Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones said: “I thought we were pretty good for 80 minutes but it was just those dying seconds.

“Our ill-discipline brought a lot of pressure on. Credit to France for those last 15 minutes.

“When we look back, the discipline brought the pressure on as well as superb French play.”

Ahead of the game, Wales’ First Minister Mark Drakeford had urged people to watch the match inside their homes.

“The last thing we want is to mark a potential Grand Slam weekend with a surge in COVID cases,” he said.

Both Italy and England received a thrashing on the final weekend of the Six Nations.

Eddie Jones’ England side fell 32-18 against Ireland, despite winning against France at Twickenham last week.

It completed a clean sweep of losses against the fellow home nations, with England conceding a record number of points over its five games.

The loss gave England their equal worst performance after they also lost three games in 2018 to finish fifth.

For the final 16 minutes, Ireland played with one man down after Bundee Aki got a red card for a dangerous tackle on Billy Vunipola.

Jones said he was disappointed but insisted: “We know where we’re going.”

Italy lost 10-52 to Scotland.

After losing to Ireland the week before, Scotland rebounded at Murrayfield to finish with eight tries, giving them a boost for their game against France next week.
