Former Rangers and Scotland goalkeeper Andy Goram has died at the age of 58 after a short battle with cancer.

Goram made 260 appearances for Rangers between 1991 and 1998 following spells with Oldham and Hibernian.

He was capped 48 times for Scotland and was the national side’s first-choice goalkeeper for Euro 96.

In a statement, Rangers said Goram was a “legendary” player with a history of “astonishing saves”.

The club added: “The thoughts of the directors, management, players and staff are today with Andy’s family, and would ask that their privacy is respected at this sad time.

“Funeral details will be communicated in due course.”

Goram revealed in May that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and doctors had given him about six months to live.

He had been diagnosed with level 4 oesophageal cancer and was told the illness has spread to his liver, right lung, three vertebrae and ribs.
