A five-year-old boy has died and a nine-year-old girl is seriously injured after they were hit by a bus in Glasgow.

The children were struck by a single-decker at around 5.40pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services attended with paramedics treating the five-year-old at the scene. However, he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The nine-year-old schoolgirl was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, where her condition has been described as serious but stable.

The incident occurred on Calder Street in the city, near the Hickman Street junction.

The road was closed and eventually reopened at around 11.55pm.

Police Scotland’s Sergeant Nicolas Twigg said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the boy who died and they have asked for privacy at what is a very difficult time for them.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what has happened and we are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash and saw what happened to get in touch.

“In addition, if you have dashcam that could help with our crash investigation then please contact us.”
