A cat’s meowing led to an 83-year-old woman being rescued after she plunged 70ft down an embankment.
The elderly woman had gone missing, and emergency services had started to search for her near her home in Bodmin, in Cornwall.
However, a passer-by noticed the woman’s cat, Piran, in the corner of a maize field, meowing loudly on Saturday evening.
Piran’s owner was found to have fallen down the side of an embankment, plunging around 70ft (21 metres) into a wooded area.
Firefighters from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service started an operation to save the woman, with help from a specialist water rescue team.
The woman was lifted out of her predicament and back to the field where her loyal pet had sounded the alarm, via a line rescue stretcher.
She was taken by the Cornwall Air Ambulance service to hospital, with South West Ambulance Service also helping to treat her.
The 83-year-old was said by Bodmin Police to be in a “stable condition”, with the force adding: “Piran the cat saved the day! 🐱”
