A pair of drug dealers were caught with £500,000 of cocaine after a 100mph police chase that went through a restaurant car park.

Officers from West Midlands Police could be heard sighing “really” as the narcotic-laden vehicle used a hard-shoulder to undertake a patrol car on the M6 near junction seven.

Simon Pagett, 39, and Dean Stone, 40, were jailed for seven years and six years respectively for their crimes.

Pagett, from Walsall, was behind the wheel of the BMW i8 while Stone, also from Walsall, was a passenger.

Reaching speeds of up to 100mph, weaving in and out of cars, and racing through red lights towards Walsall, the driver even took a detour through a Toby Carvery car park to try and get away from the police.

At one point in the chase, which took place on 5 November last year, Stone jumped from the vehicle with a rucksack containing 5kg of “high-purity” cocaine.

Pagett pulled over after around five minutes, even using his indicators to signal his intent, while Stone was caught trying to get into a taxi, having dumped the bag in a bush.

The pair admitted possession of cocaine with intent to supply, while Pagett also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

Detective Constable Mandy Dorrington said: “Pagett and Stone clearly thought they were above the law and far too important to waste time in a traffic queue – but unfortunately for them they undertook one of our patrol cars.

“Pagett tried to try and shrug off the advanced police driver but after a few minutes realised it was a fruitless task and gave up.

“He was driving a BMW i8 worth more than £100,000. In interview he claimed the car and his lifestyle was funded through his dog breeding, cutting trees and vehicle recovery businesses which he suggested netted him £300,000.

“We’ll be putting that claim to the test and examining his finances… and any cash or assets he can’t demonstrate he’s accrued legally we’ll look to seize under the Proceeds of Crime Act.”
