Detectives are urgently trying to trace the mother of a newborn found in a park in Birmingham.
The baby boy was discovered wrapped in a blanket in the park known locally as The Mound, in the Kings Norton area of the city.
Believed to be only hours old when he was found clothed and wrapped in a blanket by a dog walker last week, he was taken to hospital to be checked over.
CCTV footage released by West Midlands Police shows a woman walking along Shannon Road, by The Mound, just before 5.10pm on 22 April − and they have now appealed for that woman to come forward as they believe she may have “vital information about what happened”.
The baby was found the day before St George’s Day and has been named George by the hospital staff looking after him.
A West Midlands police spokesperson said he was “healthy and doing well”.
But they added: “Sadly we’ve still not been able to find his mother.
“We’re very concerned for her and want to check she is doing okay, both physically and mentally.
“Giving birth is a big thing and we’re concerned she will need medical help.”
Baby George was wearing grey leggings, an orange and white striped t-shirt with a dinosaur motif, and was wrapped in a grey and white blanket when he was found.
