The mother of a black equal rights activist shot at a party in south London last month has appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Sasha Johnson, 27, remains in a critical condition having suffered “very serious” injuries when four men entered a garden on Consort Road in Peckham and “discharged a firearm”.
Ellet Dalling, Ms Johnson’s mother, has spoken out as part of a renewed Metropolitan Police appeal and urged people at the party to speak to police.
“What has happened to Sasha has left us devastated,” Ms Dalling said.
“She is currently fighting for her life in hospital with two children asking where their mummy is, what do I tell them?
“Someone must have information to what happened and to come forward. Sasha is passionate about standing up for others, please come forward and stand up for Sasha.
“Come forward to help us, I know it is not always easy but imagine if it was your daughter or the mother of your children. I believe there are people out there that can help.”
A man – believed to be in his 20s – also suffered a superficial knife injury during the incident on 23 May.
On 26 May, five men were arrested in connection with the incident, and three days later one man, 18, was charged with conspiracy to murder.
The other four were released on bail.
Enquiries are ongoing but police say there is nothing to suggest that Ms Johnson was the subject of a targeted attack.
Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard said: “It is vital that we gather as much information as possible to establish what happened in the early hours of that Sunday morning and why.”
