Cristiano Ronaldo has told Juventus he wants to leave, the Italian club’s manager has said.

The Portuguese star said his goodbyes to his teammates and emptied his locker as he spent an hour-and-a-half at the training ground on Friday morning.

The club’s coach, Massimiliano Allegri, said: “Yesterday, Cristiano told me that he no longer has any intention to play for Juventus.”

“I’m absolutely not disappointed, because Cristiano took his own decision. He was here for three years, he gave his contribution, he put himself at Juventus’ disposal, and now he’s leaving and life goes on.”

Allegri added that Ronaldo would not be called up for Saturday’s Serie A match against Empoli.

Ronaldo, who at 36 is still considered one of the best players in the world, has been linked with a move to Manchester City, who missed out on Tottenham forward Harry Kane in this summer’s transfer window.

But the move would be controversial given Ronaldo’s years at Manchester United, where he played between 2003 and 2009.

With Juventus, he won two league titles – but the team failed to win the coveted Champions League.

The Italian giants are reportedly seeking around £25m for Ronaldo.
