A couple were left trapped inside a Hampshire library after their car smashed through one of its walls.
Books and magazines were left strewn across the building in the town of Hythe after the car careered into the venue on Sunday morning and became embedded in the wall.
Pictures show the front of the smashed up vehicle inside the library with shelves and furniture destroyed, and rubble thrown across the room.
The local fire station in Hardley tweeted to say that the two people in the car, who were thought to be elderly, managed to make their escape from the car without any major injuries.
However, they did then find themselves trapped inside the library – which is closed on a Sunday.
The car was eventually removed with a winch by fire crews, who then “tunnelled through” to help the pair reach safety.
Hampshire Libraries said that the venue is likely to be closed for at least a week.
It is not thought to be a suspicious incident.
