A child has died after a fire at a block of flats in south London.
A woman and two children were rescued from the top floor of the Greenwich property and taken to hospital – where one child later died, said London Fire Brigade.
Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to Russett Way at 5.44am on Saturday.
“Part of the top floor of a split-level maisonette was damaged by the fire,” said a brigade statement.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman and two children from the top floor of the property.
“They have all been taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews, where sadly one of the children passed away.”
The fire was brought under control at 6.49am – police and the fire service are investigating the cause.
