Tim Burton, known for his macabre and bizarre style of films, will direct the live-action series, which will follow the Addams’ daughter while she’s at high school.
Netflix says: “The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.
“Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago – all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
Wednesday Addams was first introduced to the world in 1938, though without a name, in a cartoon for the New Yorker magazine.
It wasn’t until 1964 that the family members were given names for the original TV series, where Morticia was played by Carolyn Jones.
The much-loved 1991 film The Addams Family saw Anjelica Hutson take up the role.
There is not yet a date for when the show will start streaming.
