Carl Weathers, the actor famous for playing Apollo Creed in the Rocky films, has died aged 76.
In a statement, his family said: “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers.
“He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024.
“Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life.
“Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognised worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”
Weathers, a former NFL linebacker who went on to become a beloved action and comedy star, featured in such classics as Predator opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger and Happy Gilmour opposite Adam Sandler.
His most famous role was that of Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise.

Most recently he starred in the Disney+ hit “The Mandalorian,” appearing in all three seasons.
