A British woman has died on a beach in Portugal.
The 45-year-old, believed to be a tourist, felt unwell after she got out of the sea.
The alarm was raised at 1.15pm on Wednesday at Peneco Beach in the city of Albufeira.
Medics from the National Institute of Medical Emergency tried to resuscitate her, but they were unable to save her life.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.
Her body has been taken by firefighters to the medical office in Portimao, a nearby port city.
Albufeira is in the Algarve – a coastal region in southern Portugal that is popular with tourists.
Following the incident, a Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We have not been approached for consular assistance but stand ready to provide support if necessary.”
