Boris Johnson has led the plaudits to the England team, as fans react to England’s thumping 4-0 quarter-final win over Ukraine.

The prime minister was quick to react to the victory calling the team’s performance “outstanding”.

In his tweet he added: “We’re all behind you for the semi-finals, bring it home.”

Labour’s opposite number, Sir Keir Starmer, also tweeted, saying: “Incredible result. Huge credit to Gareth Southgate and the team. It’s coming home!”

He accompanied the message with a photo of him wearing an England top next to a pint.

Meanwhile, Ross Kemp, who became known during the last world cup for his enthusiastic video messages has returned to form, screaming “come on, England!” at the camera while wearing full diver gear.

British astronaut Tim Peake also added his praise to the squad, saying: “Convincing win from England tonight – congratulations on a brilliant performance all round. Bring on the semi-finals!”

Oasis legend Liam Gallagher simply tweeted “it’s coming home” while comedian Jack Whitehall wrote: “If we where (sic) whispering it after the Germany game, it’s now up to a murmur… ‘it’s coming home'”

Sky Sports pundit Chris Kamara wrote “Brilliant superb fantastic” and “most of all unbelievable” as TV presenters Ant and Dec said: “Oh boy. Hard not to get carried away innit!? D #Euros2020 #ItsComingHome”

The Duke Of Cambridge, who is president of the English Football Association (FA), also expressed his joy, tweeting: “Another top team performance and clean sheet from England tonight. #ThreeLions. Well played to Ukraine. Can’t wait for Wednesdays semi final!”

Fans are now speculating that football could be “coming home”, in the words of Frank Skinner and David Baddiel, with thousands of people packing out pubs, bars and fan zones up and down the country.

In central London, fans packed out Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square, with revellers ripping off their shirts and chanting at the final whistle.

Marc Ghossein, who was in the capital said: “It’s an amazing feeling. We have been waiting for this for 25 years now. We’re almost at the semi-final, it’s coming home. England is going to win this year.

Boxpark venues in the capital were also scenes of chaos as beer went flying on the stroke of full time in Rome, while zones in other places in England became filled with noise as it England booked their place in the next round.

Dozens of fans gathered near King George’s statue in London’s Pall Mall cheering, chanting and singing about Gareth Southgate and Jack Grealish.

Buses were beeping along to the England chant as they drove past.

The Metropolitan Police said that officers are out on the streets to ensure “everyone can celebrate safely.”

England will take to the Wembley turf on Tuesday, in a semi-final clash against Denmark.
