A boy has been hospitalised with a head injury after an incident on a theme park ride in Australia.

Emergency services were called to Warner Bros Movie World in Oxenford, Queensland, at around 1pm to deal with the incident on the Looney Tunes Carousel.

Local media have reported that the boy, who is believed primary school aged, fell from the ride.

After being assessed by a nurse at the theme park, he was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

#Oxenford – Paramedics transported a stable patient with a head injury to Gold Coast University Hospital under lights and sirens following an incident on a ride around 1pm.

On Twitter, Queensland Ambulance Service said paramedics took him to the hospital “under lights and sirens”.

Village Roadshow Theme Parks, which operates Movie World, said the boy suffered a “laceration to his head” and an investigation is now under way.

“Our thoughts are with the guest and his family and we wish him a speedy recovery,” it said in a statement.

“We pride ourselves on our standards of care and quality and an investigation is being conducted as a matter of priority into the exact cause of the incident.”

The theme park has closed the ride while it looks into what caused the accident.

“The safety and wellbeing of guests and team members is our top priority at Village Roadshow Theme Parks and we are committed to providing guests with a fun and safe environment,” the statement continued.

It added that further updates on the situation would be issued when available.
