A baby girl has been born on an Afghanistan evacuation flight heading for Birmingham airport.

Soman Noori, 26, gave birth at 30,000ft above ground, in Kuwait airspace, after going into labour.

Ms Noori, and her husband Taj Moh Hammat, 30, were travelling to the UK from Dubai after being evacuated on a flight for Afghan citizens who had worked for the UK.

A spokesperson for Turkish Airlines said: “After the pregnant passenger informed the cabin crew about her labour pains, the crew asked whether there was a doctor in the aircraft.

“Due to no doctor being available on the flight, cabin crew facilitated the birth in accordance with their training.”

The baby girl was called Havva – a name of Hebrew origin meaning “life”.

She is the couple’s third child.

The aircraft landed in Kuwait as a precaution, before continuing its journey to Birmingham airport, with the new passenger and her family.

Approximately 117,000 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan since the Taliban takeover on 15 August, with Britain expected to conclude its evacuation operation from the country today.

General Sir Nick Carter said on Saturday morning how there were now “very few” civilian evacuation flights arriving in the UK from Kabul.
