Martin Scorsese is no stranger to the art of filmmaking – but he met his match earlier this week when he shot a 60 second clip for TikTok with his daughter.
Women asking the men in their lives to name beauty products has become a trend on the app, with the result mostly being confusion over what certain items are used for.
Scorsese‘s daughter, Francesca, who has acted in films such as The Aviator and The Departed, asked her director dad to take part and test his knowledge on beauty products and beyond in the video.
Titled “Having my dad guess feminine items pt.1” and soundtracked with Tomfoolery from Spongebob Squarepants, the video has nearly 100,000 views on the app, and has been shared across Twitter and Instagram too.
The 78-year-old nails his first item – an eyelash curler – much to the surprise of his daughter, and he only just gets the second one right, with him calling a beauty blender a “cosmetic thing”.
But he then goes on to call a menstrual cup a “flagon” and an “eye cup”, before being confused by a bobby pin and a pair of pasties (nipple covers – not the ones you find in Greggs).
Francesca does give her father some credit, captioning the video: “I will probably regret posting this but… he actually did much better than I thought!!”
Scorsese’s appearance on the app underlines the platform’s popularity, with most stars now using TikTok to talk directly to fans.
Gordon Ramsay also frequently appears on the app with his daughter, where he turns his hand from cooking to dancing, in an effort to entertain (her) fans.

Judi Dench has also appeared on TikTok with younger family members, as has comedian Jo Brand, who took part in a lip-syncing trend earlier in the year.
Francesca Scorsese has recently appeared in the HBO drama We Are Who We Are, alongside stars such as Chloe Sevigny and Jack Dylan Grazer.
