Rep. Ami Bera (D-Calif.) isn’t giving up on his push to turn his brush with a rabid Capitol fox in April 2022 into positive public policy change.
His bill, which he reintroduced after a first attempt last year, would create a reimbursement program for providers who treat uninsured individuals for rabies and enable grants for local health department to stockpile treatments for the disease.
“Access to necessary and life-saving rabies treatment should never break the bank,” Bera said in a statement.
Background: Bera — and a POLITICO reporter — were among the people bitten by the fox, whose spree of human encounters captivated and terrified the Capitol complex.
