A man arrested in connection with the disappearance of an 11-year-old girl in the Scottish Borders has now been charged by police.
The girl was eventually found safe and well at a property in Galashiels on Monday night.
But the alarm had been raised on Sunday night, when she was reported missing. The last sighting of her before her disappearance had been at around 5.45pm that day in the town centre.
A community-wide search was launched with assistance from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Border Search and Rescue Unit, volunteers, and specialist teams from Police Scotland, including investigators, divers and air support.
The search ended successfully at around 9.30pm on Monday.
Andrew George Miller, a 53-year-old man, was then arrested in connection with the disappearance on Tuesday.
He has since been charged and is expected to appear at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Thursday.
A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal, Scotland’s public prosecution service.
High visibility police patrols will continue in the area, with an investigation into what happened ongoing.
‘I want to thank the public for their huge effort’
Chief Superintendent Catriona Paton, Lothians and Scottish Borders commander, said: “I want to thank the public for their huge effort and assistance during this incident.
“The people of Galashiels really came together and supported each other, the emergency services and search teams.
“We believe this incident to be contained and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
“There will be increased high visibility patrols in the streets to provide reassurance and advice to the public, and anyone with concerns can speak to an officer at any time.”
