An Uber driver was stabbed to death by a passenger “who woke up and decided he was going to kill someone” and posted a video of his victim dying on Facebook, police said.
Brandon Jacobs, 29, of Harvey, Louisiana, New Orleans, carried out the attack in the car park of a Travelodge on the Westbank Expressway.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said the victim, 54-year-old Yolanda Dillon from Marrero, was found stabbed several times inside a vehicle and was taken to hospital where she died.
She was dropping Jacobs off at the hotel on Thursday at around 3pm when she was attacked.
Jacobs was arrested within hours of the stabbing and charged with second-degree murder.
During a news conference on Friday, the sheriff said Jacobs had confessed to the killing.
“His confession basically stated that he woke up yesterday morning and decided he was going to kill someone and decided that was going to be his day,” said the sheriff.

“He was in the back seat,” the officer continued. “Stabbed her from behind, exited the vehicle and just walked away casually.”
Jacobs recorded and posted a video of the aftermath on Facebook, the sheriff added.
Ms Dillon also worked as a budget analyst for New Orleans Police Department.
Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said: “Our team is taking it pretty hard. She will be dearly missed. She was very quiet… very humble. A quiet giant, I would say, because she meant a lot to this department and it tore our employees up.”
The investigation by Jefferson Parish authorities remains ongoing.
