Hollywood star John Travolta has been spotted shopping and relaxing in Norfolk – with “excited” people telling of the “surreal experience” of meeting the “one and only” actor.

The 68-year-old “had a really nice chat” with people at a Morrisons supermarket after staff thought it was the actor standing at the bread counter.

The star of Pulp Fiction and Saturday Night Fever was also seen relaxing at a pub in the town of Dereham, around 15 miles west of Norwich.

The American actor is believed to be in the area for filming at Raynham Hangar Studios and it came just days after he was on stage at the Oscars in Los Angeles.

According to the Eastern Daily Press Nicola Gee, an employee at Morrisons, said: “I was going about my normal duties at Morrisons in Fakenham and I looked up and saw the one and only John Travolta in our store.

“We questioned whether it was actually him at first as I just do not think that we ever imagined that we would see a film star in Fakenham.”

Gary Middleton, a security guard at the store, said: “Once people realised who it was they all started to get excited.

“He was quite smart-looking, well built and very polite to all the staff here.”

‘You could tell who it was’

He added Travolta “looks a bit different to the way people remember him from the 1970s and 80s”, but said “you could tell who it was from the smile in his eyes”.

Travolta was also seen at the Romany Rye pub in Dereham on Thursday evening.

Jamie Salter, 20, told the Eastern Daily Press it was a “surreal experience” and added: “I went over and said ‘excuse me, sorry for disturbing your evening, I’ve just got a question: Is it John?’

“I asked him what he was doing here because you wouldn’t expect to see John Travolta in Dereham.”

Mr Salter said he was told the star was filming a Christmas movie.
