A girl fleeing the Ukraine invasion was thrown a surprise birthday party by volunteers and emergency services personnel at a Romanian refugee camp.
When Arina emerged from her family’s tent, she was greeted by balloons and more than a dozen people who sang her happy birthday.
The beaming seven-year-old was also given a pink hat, gifts and a cake made by her mother and volunteers.

One of the emergency services members picked up the girl and held her in his arms as she blew out a candle on Thursday night.

Arina’s family are one of many at the Siret border camp, where Romania meets Ukraine’s southwest border – about 20 miles from the city of Chernivtsi.
