A man in a wheelchair has been dramatically rescued after falling on to the subway tracks in New York City moments before a train emerged.
Video taken of the incident at Union Square station showed the man and his wheelchair on the tracks.
One commuter immediately jumped down from the platform and, with the help of other bystanders, was able to lift the man and his wheelchair to safety.
The commuter then jumped up himself, just seconds before the train arrived.
One video of the incident, which was shared on Twitter, has been viewed more than one million times.
But there has been some criticism of the people who chose to film the incident rather than help.
Lauren Mennen, who recorded the viral video, said. “One man jumped right into action.
“There are heroes in action and I was like ‘I’m going to wave my hand at the train and it will all be good’.”
The man who was rescued was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
