A cable car has fallen near Lake Maggiore in northern Italy, killing at least five people, the country’s Alpine rescue service has said.
According to Italian media, the capsule fell from its cable near the summit of the Mottarone mountain.
Some 11 people are reported to have been on board at the time.
According to newspaper Corriere Della Serra, two children have been taken by air ambulance to hospital in Turin.
The newspaper also said that rescue efforts have been made more difficult by the fact that the cabin fell into a wood in an inaccessible area.
